• Question: Would you consider economics and computer science to be something you would need to be a data analyst? Or to create financial apps? I'm thinking of creating an app like that for my Computer science NEA, and I'm hoping that it would be something worth trying.

      Hi MubarakA,

For working as a general data analyst, I think studying computer science at GCSE or A-Level is great for teaching you the coding basics you will need BUT you can also learn those basics yourself or while studying most other STEM degrees so its not a deal breaker! (I didn’t do computer science at school, instead I got into Data Analytics from a Physics degree). You definitely don’t need to have studied economics to work as a data analyst in most companies.

But! it sounds like you really enjoy economics/finance, so studying economics would be a great choice for you! If you want to build a financial app, then it sounds like you would need knowledge of computer science and economics. And if you want to go into finance in the future then economics could be a great choice to study! (though btw I don’t work in finance, and you should ask someone in that area or maybe an economics teacher for more advice about getting into finance!)
