Although I live in Manchester now, I grew up in Leicester & have had the opportunity to move between lots of UK cities, including Leeds, Oxford, and Glasgow. I love to travel (as you might be able to guess!). I spend my free time outdoors when I can – I like to run, hike, go the the gym, and play tennis when the weather is sunny. I also like to watch Formula 1 races at weekends.

My PhD is in the biomechanics department, which means I study how people’s movements change. I focus specifically on athletes during their pregnancy, so that we can work towards giving them improved guidance. I feel really lucky to work with athletes – my job combines my love of science and sport!
You might be able to see a funny photo of me at the top of my profile! I use equipment called ‘motion capture’. When athletes attend our lab, I stick small reflective circles all over their body. We film the athlete walking using lots of cameras all around the room. The reflective circles allow us to create a 3D stickman of their movements on our computer. Did you know – ‘motion capture’ is also used to make movies and video games. It has been used in Call of Duty, Avatar, and many more.

My Typical Day:
Some days, I work at university. I read some science papers in the morning, I meet some friends for lunch, and then I show students how to use the equipment in the lab in the afternoon. Other days I work from home, where I mostly just do lots of reading and writing!
