I’m not a full on “computer scientist”, I studied this at GCSE level, and I have always used computers in every aspect of my career. However, the part I like most is learning to programme applications to solve small problems. These days that means using Python and macros in things like Excel and database application. But I also like to code in HTML for webpages, and I also use CAD software to plan and build 3D printable objects.

So computer scientist isnt exactly my job role but is in this field. My current job role is a proactive user analyst. Essentially I work on looking for problems before they become one, or create better ways of automating workflows or tasks. My favourite part is finding a small pattern and reporting the issue before it becomes a big one. Its enjoyable for me because I feel I have targeted something useful that will help people continue to do their work smoothly. So I would say in a finalized answer that I enjoy looking into data and helping people with a resolution from it – feels rewarding

My work involves investigating security incidents – which I like because I’m very nosy.
To do this well, I have to keep learning more about computing in various ways – which is very satisfying when you find the right application of something obscure you’ve read about.

I like the variety of different work that I get to do. One day I may be doing some programming, another doing some forensic research, and sometimes writing documents.

I think my favourite thing so far has definitely been seeing the industry advance and go forward. There is always something new and a new threat to catch. Tools are getting better, services are improving and every day is a new invention that we can see, test out and trial.

I like getting to learn about new software and technology that is being created like AI systems or quantum computing.
But my favourite part of my job is testing other people’s software and trying to break it! This includes (but is not limited to) pressing keys randomly on the keyboard to try and confuse the software or try to get a windows shortcut key to shutdown the computer. If I can get the screen to freeze then I get to go for an early tea break while they undo the damage or restart the program.
